Framed Ink
Comics, Comix and Graphic Novels
TASKS: Comic on the word 'light'.
6 is magic number - six equal panels and given the word "light" to interpret however.
small mind map to generate different ideas of meaning and understanding of word, and small sketches to go along.
chose a comic with a familiar pace throughout as frames are the same - light in a diff. sense of the word than many others. good pace - called "whimsical" and "fun" and good in terms of the pace throughout the narrative.
TASK 2: given a word based on "human" - I got "drown".
mind map had be thinking drowning in sorrows as well as drowning in a more literal term. one comic fast and one comic slow paced - different panels.
ideas and execution - small thumbnails to see how images would look compositionally. landscape or portrait? is the meaning there? wanted a form of interaction with the readers, wanted them to figure out what was going on without me needing to make it obvious for them. liked the use of different panels - challenging to think so quickly to make something effective and made me realise how important the shape and size of frames and panels can be.
Homework is to create a page based on "The Great Silence" by Ted Chiang. Zig zag panel may be difficult. Thinking of speed and pace - declining, descending or ascending - wide frame for playing with scale?
