First day back at uni as a year 2 - it's scary stuff!
Our Summer Tasks were brought in and put on display along the walls of our new studio next to one another. Pictures above show the diversity and different processes among my peers despite the very strict brief explaining a set size and colour palette. Despite this, I believe everyone's work has flourished and proven itself very different than the one next to it.
I realise that in the first few months of university I compared my work to others, but now seeing other people's work makes me excited and eager to see how they work and if it's a practise I could take inspiration from, and I think this thought process alone has helped me begin to see and think as a professional illustrator and one that can work among others.
My character I chose to create from was Mr. Bean - a fictional character played by Rowan Atkinson. Research helped me pick out qualities I enjoyed and wanted to illustrate about the character, but I found most pleasure in the facial expressions, as this is a huge part of the character. Through this, I decided to focus primarily on the expressions and the distinguishing features of Mr. Bean - namely his thick eyebrows, the mole on his cheek, hair and wrinkles on the forehead, coupled with the many faces he makes.
This is what my booklet consists of. The poster is a similar idea, but in a different method of collage. It isn't a medium I am familiar with but it was fun and refreshing to try something different for the project.
I received great feedback from those I spoke to about my work and they seemed amused - exactly the reaction I was aiming for!
